Dentist CEOs · Recognition program

Operator Spotlight

Quarterly recognition for dentist-CEOs who run the practice like a business — systems, numbers, succession.

What this is — and what it isn't

The Spotlight recognizes owners for the unglamorous work: the practice that runs without them, the scorecard meeting that actually happens, the clean P&L. It is editorial recognition with published criteria — not a popularity contest, not a sponsored list, and not a clinical rating of any kind. One to three operators per quarter, each with a written profile of what they built.

Disclosure: Editorial recognition with published criteria. No entry fees, no winner fees, nothing for sale to nominees. Dentist CEOs evaluates business operations as described by and verified with the nominee; it rates nothing clinical.

The published criteria

These were published before any winner existed, and every cycle is judged against them — nothing else.

  1. Owner-independence, evidenced. An Owner Dependence Audit result of 50 or lower (free at /tools/owner-audit — the verified badge link is ideal), plus at least one concrete, checkable proof: a real vacation the practice survived, a documented escalation ladder, a non-owner-run scorecard meeting.
  2. Numbers-run management. The operator can name the handful of numbers they manage by and how often they look at them. We ask; vagueness is an answer too.
  3. Team outcomes. Evidence the system is good for the people in it — tenure, internal promotions, cross-training — not just for the owner's calendar.
  4. Willingness to show the work. The Spotlight is a written profile. Recognized operators agree to share (non-financial) specifics other owners can copy: the meeting agenda, the ladder, the handoff plan.

How evaluation works

  1. Nominations collected through the quarter via the form below; no fee at any stage.
  2. Editors interview shortlisted operators and verify the checkable claims (criterion 1's proof points, not private financials).
  3. Selection is editorial judgment against these four criteria — published so you can argue with it — and the published profile shows which criteria carried the decision.
  4. Recognized operators receive the profile and the recognition; nothing is sold to them before, during, or after.

Quarterly. Nominations (including self-nominations) open all quarter; profiles are researched and written the following month; recognized operators are published with the criteria they met and the cohort size.

Recognized practices

No cohort has been published yet — nominations for the inaugural cycle are open. That's deliberate: the criteria came first, and the first recognized cohort will be published only after a full evaluation cycle against them. An awards page with winners on day one is a page you shouldn't trust.

Nominate a practice — or yourself

Self-nominations are welcome and carry no penalty; the rubric doesn't care who filled in the form. No fees at any stage.
